Duck Race and…Forums? {Editorial}

With the inclusion of the first daily event on Twin Skies, the team over at Meteor Games has really brought the heat. Compared to the ridiculously simple dailies that come from sites like Neopets, where the most you would ever do is click a button, wait for a wheel to spin, the see if you got lucky or jipped. That’s great and all, if you’re four, but we finally have a daily that has a decent backstory, connects to the MMO very well, and inspired a forum news paper!
Introducing all of the people clamoring for Twin Skies, that’s us first generation players, to Shoal and it’s town events, we have Shoal Duck Racing, the Twin Skies version of Nascar! Have you ever wondered if a green duck can beat a yellow duck? Or even better, have you wondered if a green duck named The Daring Dabbler could beat a yellow duck named Captain Quack? I thought so…
The whole story actually relates to Shoal quite nicely, as the whole appeal is one of a town that’s going through a crisis, what with the flying electric fish and all, and must find a way to have some revenue and attract people to Shoal. Of course, there is always the Mayor, who’s goal in life is to be famous, err… make Shoal famous.
In all reality, to implement site interaction with the MMO game, it would be quite easy. They could set up a betting kiosk in Shoal, or if you are of a different race, they could have a mail in service of sorts, think of it like a absentee valid, but with gambling! Physically being in-game to see the race going down would be phenomenal, too. Think of it, seeing in action what others on the site wouldn’t only see as a winner. That’s great!
Speaking about seeing races, have you checked the forums for the Shoal newspaper? Every day, or at least so far, one of the admins over at the forums have been posting up some incredible coverage over how the duck race went. Man, it’s going to be really awesome when we get to view them in game, or at least that’s the hope for this writer.
Which brings me to my overall point for these random duck observations. Already, they guys over at Twin Skies are showing the awesomeness that is cross media. Don’t know what I’m getting at? Think of cross media as the ability to act in an overall world via various access points. Two main points already defined are the 3-D MMO aspect of Twin Skies. But, we also have the website for quick use and to introduce your friends or younger players to this overall world. I think it’s amazing that they’ve created these two planets that have so many options to interact with, all happening in real time, all affecting the world. It’s crazy!
If you still aren’t totally psyched for this game, then it’s time you joined the cool club and started reading every single page on Twin Skies. Go ahead, I’ll wait. If you still refuse, well, you’ve been voted out of the cool club.
