Hello -Meek wave-

Ah, my first editorial aboard the Twin Skies Planet team. -Deep inhalation-

I had actually planned on doing this sooner, but kicking my internet connection and chatting about (not to mention a great deal of lurking) on the Twin Skies boards hindered me a bit. It really is a nice change to see nice people enjoying themselves on the internet without the amazing rogue number 937273 jumping in and calling everyone a noob.

How’s about an introduction then? My name is Mike, although on Twin Skies you can call me Cynical the Corsair. At least, that is my character’s name… You can still call me Mike if you wish, or a multitude of other things. I’m 21, my favorite color is blue, and I may or may not have a slight obsession with buying shoes. -Twitch-

corsair_b128 Hello -Meek wave-

I’ve been an avid member of Neopets for quite some time, although more recently the only thing keeping me there is my fabulous guild. We’ve decided that once a decent guild-type system is implemented in TS, we’re pretty much jumping ship and setting up there. I feel more connected to Adam and Donna than I do to Viacom, so this isn’t a big deal. In the past, I’ve played a number of MMOs, most prominently World of Warcraft and Maplestory. I liked and disliked both of them for many different reasons, although I can look back on my time with both rather favorably.

So what in the world am I doing on Twin Skies Planet, a help site for a game that hasn’t been released? Well… I haven’t quite decided yet. But I will bring you weekly editorials, hopefully filled with a bit of humor and a lot of information, detailing the different aspects of the game and my take on them. If ever I am wrong, I have no shame in admitting it. I am not a stubborn person, although I do try to back everything up with some sort of factual evidence. Heh heh, we’ll see how long that lasts.

Let’s take a quick look at the game, now that you know a little bit more about me.

Currently, Twin Skies is a browser-only game, which will become a 3D MMORPG sometime in the future, hopefully in the first quarter of 2009. From what I can gather, it will be a single-faction game, meaning that every player is on the same side despite their racial choice. At release, they hope to have at least 10 flash games on their site (they’re close to this already). These games can be played to activate events in-game, as well as collecting site points that are used for… well, nothing, yet. Also, they’re planning to have seven races spread across over 20 classes at some point. Currently, you can choose from humans or canopy elves.

I don’t particularly want to go more in-depth, since you can read most of this at the site. So lets look at races instead.

troll Hello -Meek wave-

Humans and Canopy Elves are good starter races, in my books. They are relatable and familiar, especially the former. The elves have a trippy thing going on with their ears that I’m not particularly fond of, personally. I think elven ears should point up, but to each their own. Also, they’re quite long, don’t you think? The TS team have said that you can customize the length of the ears, but… they’d have to be quite short for me to pick one, personally. Anyways, the elf in particular is a good indication that TS is going to go against the norm and create a unique game that we can all enjoy.

What about the potential future races… well, that’s a guess for anyone. Adam has jokingly stated (I hope) that walrus-men will make an appearance as a playable class. If they do, it could be sweet, if implemented correctly, but I’m not entirely convinced. So for the time being, I will continue to see this as a joke. (Adam and Donna do have a great sense of humor, so half the things they say are likely not meant to be taken literally!)

Personally, I feel that the humans left on the twin planet in the sky will become a playable class, warped hellishly into humanoids that only slightly resemble their contemporary counterparts. It would make for some intense classes, at least. They could lead a somewhat futuristic society, and use weapons that are rather advanced compared to the people on the larger planet. Then again, that’s assuming these people even survived to the present day, or didn’t become corrupted and evil in some way. If that is the case, then they’d most certainly become protagonists.

Actually, this bring me quite nicely to my next point: the villains! The best part of any game is the evil-doer and their diabolical plans. If they hope to braid Suzie’s hair when she only likes it in pig tails, well… that isn’t a very evil villain, and they don’t really need to be stopped. So far, we’ve only gotten a taste of what is to come in the form of some fairly nasty beasts. Impits look to be the foot soldiers of a more evil race (think: Burning Legion), the Gnarls are perhaps led by a fierce warrior that needs to be stopped, etc. Oh, and the Bracken! Evil Floramancers hell-bent on poisoning the world! Sounds fun.

There is so much more to come on Twin Skies, it really is overwhelming! I honestly can’t wait for this release. We know so little about these two worlds, so everything is speculation until more has been released. Still, it looks amazing so far.

Enough of that… Next editorial will focus on character creation! Huzzah! It will also be much more structured, I’m sure. ^^
