Gnunicorns are large grazing animals predominantly found in the grassier areas of Shoal and the Wandering Plains. As a species, their two distinguishing features are the ubiquitous single horn on their heads as well as an amazing ability to learn and speak any language. Despite their ability to communicate with their new human neighbors, man's efforts to tame and make use of the gnunicorns in farming have been laughable failures as gnunicorns are notoriously lazy and uncooperative beasts.

Gnunicorns are not hostile and recorded Gnunicorn attacks are very rare. That is not to say they are friendly. Gnunicorns will often ignore anything that is not a tasty patch of grass or another gnunicorn. Despite being endowed with the gift of speech, Gnunicorns rarely converse with one another and almost never carry a conversation with a human. Zoologists are split down the middle as to whether this makes them naturally shy or just snooty.
Gnunicorn horns were highly sought after for a time after rumors circulated that they contained magical properties. However, Wizards have since discovered that Gnunicorn horns are one of the few items in the world to be almost completely devoid of magic.
